barry jahn & the oets: summary

1. Creativity and Innovation
Students demonstrate creative thinking and problem solving skills to develop innovative products and processes using (digital) technology.

This standard focuses on students using technology tools to do things in a new and creative way. In language arts, students can use blogs to post their ideas or use dropbox to turn in assignments.

2. Communication and Collaboration
Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, across the global community, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.

This standard focuses on helping find ways for students to work with each other even when not physically in the same place. Students can comment on eachother posts and leave video responses via tokbox too.

3. Research and Information Fluency
Students select and apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, validate, and use information.

This standard focuses on helping students build skills to efficiently find and evaluate information. Students can use the various search engines and the more specific systems such as googlescholar to find quality information.

4. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving and Decision Making
Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.

This standard focuses on helping students plan, manage, and organize their thoughts, ideas, and research. Students in language arts could use Google docs for a group project and make communal updates to the project.

5. Digital Citizenship
Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to digital technology and practice legal, ethical, and responsible behavior.

This standard focuses on helping students understand the significance and danger of the digital world. Students learn to protect their identities and be responsible as in real life.

6. Technology Operations and Concepts
Students utilize technology concepts and tools to learn.

This standard focuses on the ways students can academically and intellectually benefit from the technological tools offered.

Challenges to academic use of technology can exist in the fact there are quite various computer skill levels in students and access to computer technology.

tobox info!

Tokbox is really cool! You can easily send video messages to other people and have live conversations with others through it. You can speak to up to 20 people at once. This tool was a lot of fun to work with and very easy to use.
